How we create impact & how our funds are used

Transparency & Annual Reports

2025

A year of reflection, renewal and renewed focus

2025 marked an important turning point for Plastic Whale Foundation. While we explored at the beginning of the year new initiatives such as Tiny Clubhouse for Big Impact, this process ultimately strengthened our conviction that our greatest contribution lies in environmental education. As a result, from 2026 onwards we have renewed our focus on educating, activating and inspiring children and young people to become part of the solution to plastic pollution.

At the end of the year, we welcomed new board members, appointed a new Director and reflected on where we can create the greatest long-term impact. Alongside this strategic shift, we continued to bring children, schools, volunteers and partners together through hands-on educational programmes that make plastic pollution tangible and empower participants to take action.

Our highlights:

  • A renewed strategic direction
  • Welcoming new board members and new leadership providing a strong direction for 2026
  • New long-term partnerships enable us to reach 1.950 in 2026 alone
  • Together with Rotary Club Amsterdam, we welcomed 162 newcomers during SAIL
  • Community action together with Droppie returning over 10.500 deposit bottles back to the system

Transparency builds trust

At Plastic Whale Foundation, we believe that creating lasting impact starts with being transparent about our work.

Every year, we publish both an Impact Report and a Financial Report. Together, these documents provide insight into our mission, activities, finances and the impact we create with the support of our partners, donors and volunteers. Our Impact Reports share the stories behind our work, the people we reach and the progress we make towards a world without plastic pollution.

Our Financial Reports provide a detailed overview of our income, expenditures and financial position, ensuring that our resources are managed responsibly and in line with our mission. As an ANBI (Public Benefit Organisation), we are committed to making these documents publicly available and transparent.

Our impact metrics

Impact measurement

Removing plastic from waterways is only part of our mission. Our primary objective is to inspire long-term behavioural change by helping children and young people experience that they can make a positive difference.

We therefore measure impact across four areas:

Environmental impact

  • KG waste removed from waterways and public spaces
  • Material streams collected (plastic, PET, glass, cans and residual waste)

Educational impact

  • Children and young people reached
  • Educational programmes delivered
  • Schools and teachers engaged

Organisational impact

  • Governance improvements
  • Long-term funding secured
  • Strategic partnerships developed

Together, these indicators help us understand not only what we remove from nature today, but also how we contribute to lasting environmental awareness for tomorrow.

Our reports are published annually as part of our commitment to transparency and in accordance with the Dutch ANBI publication requirements. They provide insight into our governance, activities, finances and the impact of our work.

Looking ahead

In 2026, Plastic Whale Foundation will fully focus on what we believe creates the greatest long-term impact: inspiring children and young people to become changemakers for cleaner waterways.

Together with schools, governments, businesses and mission-driven partners, we will continue building a future where environmental awareness begins with experience, and where today’s actions inspire tomorrow’s generation.
